Hi everyone… our stay in Salvador was weird. It felt like the entire time was spent running around trying to figure out our next travel step (i.e. coming to Lençois, flying to Rio). Now that’s done. However, we did do some cool stuff while there.

We got to go see the Igreja São Francisco. This church must have the most gold per square foot of any building in the world. The floor was checkerboard pattern of exotic marble, while the walls and ceilings were ornately designed, with gold curly-q’s on every bit of wallspace between the cherubs and other decorations. The celings had elaborate pineapple chandeliers and more curly-q’s.

We also got to see a capoeira “show”. Meghan wants to post about that so I won’t steal her thunder, but I will say I’m sore.

Last night before we got on the bus we went and took a picture of the Elevador Laçerda, which is (aptly named) and elevator. You might wonder why an elevator is a tourist attraction… well Salvador is built in an area where the Pelorinho area (in which we stayed) is separated from the Cidade Baixa by cliffs. So they built an elevator and a platform so you can get up and down. We didn’t get to ride it though (we didn’t really need to go down, and the view from above was nice!)

So now we’re in Lençois where there are natural waterslides and swimming holes within walking distance. The water is the color of Coca-Cola (without the bubbles of course), but it is clean!
